Alessandro Russo has taught sociology at the University of Bologna. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, and Tsinghua University, Beijing. His works include Le rovine del mandato. La modernizzazione politica dell’educazione e della cultura cinesi [The Ruins of the Mandate: The Political Modernisation of Chinese Education and Culture] (Franco Angeli, 1985), La sociologia di Freud. Una lettura de ‘Il disagio della civiltà’ [Freud’s Sociology: A Reading of ‘The Malaise of Civilisation’] (Franco Angeli, 2013), editing the Italian edition of Durkheim’s Pedagogical Evolution in France: History of Secondary Education (Bononia University Press, 2006), and Cultural Revolution and Revolutionary Culture (Duke University Press, 2020). He is currently working on a project about China in the Cold War.
