Dan Chen is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Richmond, Virginia. Her research explores the complex interplay between political power and societal forces in China, focusing on popular culture, public opinion, and news media. She is the author of Convenient Criticism: Local Media and Governance in Urban China (SUNY Press, 2020). She is writing a new book examining Chinese stand-up comedy as a lens into public discourse and societal change.
