Faye Linfei Xu is a PhD candidate in Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Her current research, part of the project ‘RESCUE: Resilient Cultures—Music, Art, and Cinema in Mainland China and Hong Kong’ (ERC Advanced Grant, Project no. 101097553), focuses on grassroots socially engaged art practices in mainland China and Hong Kong, examining their strategies and politics of resilience in ever-changing political and technological contexts. Alongside her research, she works with artists and activists to explore how scholarship can be practised as a form of care and solidarity.
The Chinese Government imposes strict controls on publishing through both formal legal mechanisms and informal, arbitrary enforcement.
