Haoyan Zhuang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Renmin University of China. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests include co-living, youth studies, urban studies, and social transformation. His doctoral dissertation, ‘Collective individualization: Co-living among youth in contemporary China’, explores the everyday lives and life attitudes of co-living youth. He has also published work on co-living in Asian Anthropology and contributed chapters to edited volumes.
Co-living residents highlight the present, exploration, and fluidity as central to their ‘experience orientation’, viewing these traits as essential to the uniqueness of their life.
