Yuan Gao is an Assistant Professor of Chinese History at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Her research and teaching focus on the environmental history of imperial and modern China, with particular interest in the history of agrarian societies and multispecies interactions in Central Eurasia. She is currently working on a book manuscript on the environmental history of land reclamation in Xinjiang from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries.
